Our 7-step AC repair process

Every Orlando AC repair follows the same seven steps - built to find the actual fault before anyone quotes you a price. You can see our 7-step diagnostic process in detail on our Service Process page.

01Step 1 of 7

Same-day dispatch confirmation

When you call, we confirm a same-day arrival window during business hours and tell you who's coming - Tony or Jon Luke, not a subcontractor. You get a real time window, not an open-ended wait.

02Step 2 of 7

On-site diagnostic

We test the system with calibrated instruments: manifold gauges for refrigerant pressures, a multimeter for capacitor microfarad readings and contactor voltage, a thermal camera for airflow and electrical hot spots, and a megohmmeter for compressor windings when a motor fault is suspected.

03Step 3 of 7

Honest diagnosis with you present

We show you the failed component - the swollen capacitor, the pitted contactor, the iced evaporator coil - and explain what failed and why. The diagnosis happens in front of you, not in a sealed van.

04Step 4 of 7

Repair options explained with pricing transparency

We lay out the repair options against our published ranges so you see the number before we touch a wrench. When a fix sits near the repair-vs-replace line, we say so honestly.

05Step 5 of 7

Your approval before any work begins

Nothing gets repaired until you approve the option and the price. No surprise add-ons appear on the invoice.

06Step 6 of 7

Repair with the right parts

We complete the repair using OEM or manufacturer-approved parts when available and appropriate - capacitors rated for Florida's 130°F+ attic conditions, contactors matched to the unit's amperage draw.

07Step 7 of 7

Operational verification

Before we leave, we verify the fix: airflow measured in CFM at the registers, a supply-to-return temperature differential in the 15–22°F range, and refrigerant charge confirmed by subcool and superheat readings. A repair isn't done until the numbers prove it.

Step 1 of 7

8 common AC problems we diagnose

The eight failures we see most across Orlando and Central Florida - most of them driven or accelerated by year-round operation and Florida heat.

01

Capacitor failure

The most common Florida AC repair - by industry estimates, capacitor faults account for roughly 30–40% of summer service calls. The unit hums or clicks but won't start. We read microfarad output against the nameplate rating and replace it same-visit with a part rated for attic heat.
02

Refrigerant leak or low charge

Low refrigerant shows up as weak cooling, ice on the lines, or a system that runs constantly. We locate the leak with electronic detection or UV dye, then verify charge by subcool and superheat. R-410A, R-454B, and legacy R-22 are handled under EPA Section 608.
03

Frozen evaporator coil

A coil sheathed in ice is almost always an airflow or charge problem - a dirty filter, a failing blower, or low charge. We thaw the coil, find the root cause, and correct it. Topping off a system that's freezing on airflow only masks the real fault.
04

Contactor failure

The contactor is the electrical switch that powers the compressor and condenser fan. Florida's thunderstorm surges pit and arc its contacts until it sticks. The symptom is a condenser that won't engage; we test it under load and replace it when the contacts show pitting.
05

Compressor failure

The most serious AC repair - and where repair-vs-replace becomes the real question. On a system over 12 years old, or when the compressor cost approaches 40% of a new system, replacement is often the honest call. We walk the math with you and, when it makes sense, you can consider AC replacement instead.
06

Blower motor failure

The blower moves conditioned air through the ducts. When the ECM or PSC motor fails, you get little or no airflow even though the outdoor unit runs. We test the motor and capacitor, check the control-board signal, and replace the motor when it's drawing wrong or not spinning.
07

Condensate drain clog

Florida humidity makes the condensate line a constant problem - algae and biofilm grow fast and back water into the pan. A clogged line trips the float switch and shuts the system down, or overflows onto the ceiling. We clear it, flush it, and treat it to slow regrowth.
08

Thermostat failure or miscalibration

Sometimes the AC is fine and the thermostat is the fault - a dead control board, a miscalibrated sensor, or wiring that's lost a connection. We confirm the thermostat is reading and signaling correctly before condemning any mechanical part, so you don't pay for a repair you don't need.

AC repair pricing in Orlando

We publish our ranges because customers tell us fair pricing is why they call back. Your exact price depends on the part, the system, and the refrigerant type - and the diagnostic visit is waived when you proceed with the repair. For a full breakdown, see our full AC repair cost guide.

What Orlando customers say

Our AC stopped working completely and we thought we were going to have to replace it. Jon Luke from Father and Son came out, found the problem, and was able to repair it the same day. We were so thankful that we did not need to replace the whole system.
Amanda LehrOrlando
I called for an appointment and within one hour my AC was checked, fixed, and working! I have never had such polite, speedy, and thorough service for my AC. Best customer service and work done in a timely manner - you can't ask for more.
Mary Elizabeth MaramaraOrlando
It was hot when I woke up Saturday morning. I called Father and Son AC and they were very prompt and professional. I actually got the son of the company - really nice guy. I was up and running in a few minutes and the price was super reasonable. I would recommend this company to everyone.

AC repair FAQ

We offer same-day AC repair during business hours (Monday–Friday 8am–5pm, Saturday 8am–12pm) when scheduling allows, and we prioritize urgent calls like a fully down system in summer heat. Call early in the day for the best chance of a same-day window.

Capacitor failure is the most common AC repair in Florida - by industry estimates, roughly 30–40% of summer service calls. The heat and constant run time wear capacitors out faster here than almost anywhere else.

Repair is usually the right call unless the system is 12+ years old or the repair cost exceeds about 40% of a new system. When you cross either threshold, we'll walk the math honestly and you can consider AC replacement instead.

Yes - the diagnostic visit is $49–$150, and it's waived when you proceed with the repair. You'll know the diagnostic fee before we arrive.

Yes. We offer six Synchrony financing plans, including 0% promotional financing for 25 months (a deferred-interest plan). You can spread the cost with Synchrony financing - subject to credit approval.
